What we do and why we do it…
The House Next Door was founded in 2015 by Karen Hunter, who was serving as a priest at Grace Church at the time. The organization received its name when Karen noticed a house available next door to the church. She approached her sister and brother-in-law, Matt and Kristen Maguire, about the opportunity. With generous hearts, they purchased and donated the home, making the vision a reality. Karen and her family have been the rock of our non-profit as well as our amazing Board Members who continual support this mission. Since 2015, The House Next Door has provided single mothers and their children the opportunity to live rent-free in a safe, shared home environment. This support allows mothers to focus on their education, career goals, and personal growth without the burden of rent, while working toward long-term self-sufficiency.
Over the past decade, The House Next Door has served more than 40 families who have achieved significant milestones in their lives and become valuable contributors to our community.
The House Next Door is not government funded. We rely solely on the generosity of our community partners, donors, and friends who believe in our mission and continue to support the families we serve.
